According to English folklore, a settler once nearly cut off his thumb with an axe. His father, who was knowledgeable about folk medicine, advised him to apply a bandage of tightly packed eucalyptus leaves around the cut. Later, when a surgeon saw the wound, he was very surprised, as the thumb had healed so quickly and without any sign of infection. The eucalyptus tree, known as the "Tasmanian blue gum," is an evergreen tree native to Australia, which is said to be the main food source for koala bears. It provides excellent food for wildlife, and the essential oil extracted from eucalyptus leaves has very powerful therapeutic properties.
The main chemical components are: eucalyptol and alpha-terpineol, which makes it an ideal oil for ensuring a sense of easy breathing and opening up the airways, as well as for performing a soothing massage.
Studies: It has been found that eucalyptus oil can be effective in reducing pain, swelling, and inflammation. In patients who have undergone knee replacement surgery, the inhalation of eucalyptus oil significantly reduced blood pressure and pain. A 2015 study concluded that the topical application of 1,8-cineole (the primary active component of eucalyptus oil) offers a new therapeutic approach for reducing mucus secretion during infection.
